About the Dunga Derby

The Dunga Derby is the major fundraising event for the Rally for A Cause charity in its efforts to support local Fraser Coast families with life-limiting medical conditions and in need of financial and/or practical assistance.

We celebrated our 10th Year with a five-day car rally adventure in 2024 where we travelled from the coast to the bush - and back, with a field of 55 Dunga cars and support vehicles - having a load of fun along the way!  

The event was acknowledged by winning the 2024 Fraser Coast Business and Tourism Awards for Event of the Year for consecutive years.

THE 2024 FRASER COAST DUNGA DERBY IS DONE AND DUSTED. THE EVENT RAISED $730, 381 FOR THE FRASER COAST COMMUNITY. 

The 2025 Fraser Coast Dunga Derby Event will be held from 31 July-3 August.

All entries are by application only. 

Applications will be considered by the Executive Committee. 

Once the Executive Committee have voted, applications will be finalised.

If your team features a person with a disability (or a medical condition that requires support or attention), we want to discuss before registration. 
 
This is a requirement of the registration application so we can ensure everyone is safe and cared for and has a memorable time on the event.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

REGISTRATION:

To enter your car you pay a Team Registration fee that covers up to 3 people per car. You might think of this as the 'Car Fee'. 

You can add an extra member, to a maximum of 4 people at registration.

The registration fee covers the costs of your meals, accommodation, entertainment, activities, event insurances, permit fees & charges, vehicle stickers and Dunga merchandise (shirt/hat/stubby cooler)! 

Our costs are not pro rata, and cannot be calculated cheaper for teams of 2 (the band we hire won't charge us less because there are less in your team, your car still needs the same amount of stickers, no matter how many people are in it, route notes and prep, signage, software and all the other behind-the-scenes items we develop to give you an awesome 'Dunga'. These are team costs and not an individual cost.)

The Registration fees for the 2025 Dunga Derby are $1,425 for a team of 2 or 3 people, or $1,900 for a team of 4 people.

Your team fundraises (a minimum of $3,000 for a team of 3 or less, or $3,500 for a team of 4), with these proceeds going directly to the Rally for a Cause Charity.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DERBY?

Well most of it is a closely guarded secret.....you won't know where we'll be going, what we'll be doing or where we'll be staying.  Each morning and afternoon new route instructions are provided and you'll go with the flow....with some fun adventure stops and activities along the way.

Campsite facilities will be provided (they may be basic with limited showers - but it's only 4 nights!). Bring your swag, or tent, or sleep under your Dunga if you prefer. The Dunga Derby officials will take care of your meals and provide entertainment, while you take care of your own drinks, refreshments and snacks.

TEAMS

Dunga teams should consist of 3 or 4 people who are happy to share the driving. We are an over 18s event! 

Each team must have a minimum of 2 licenced drivers (Open or P's).  Learner drivers are not permitted to drive on the Dunga Derby.

We encourage entries from friends, businesses & workplaces and for those wanting to add more fun - costumes and vehicle themes are encouraged to make things more interesting.

THE DUNGA CARS

Dunga cars should be older than 10 years old!  

If the year of manufacture of your Dunga is pre 2000 then It's Definitely a Dunga.  If your Dunga is between 2000 - 2014 then It is a Dunga, and if its year of manufacture is after 2014 then It is NOT a Dunga and a "Luxury Car Tax" of $300 per vehicle is to be paid on registration.  If you would also like to bring something that is a 4WD then the "Luxury Car Tax" also applies.

We have friends who can help you find a cheap car – however your car must be roadworthy and must hold CTP and Third Party Insurance. It is absolutely your responsibility to ensure that your Dunga is safe. You may find the perfect Dunga and invest some love into it to keep it and use year after year.

Themed cars are welcome and encouraged, they really add to the event.

You will receive a sticker pack including door sticker and sponsors stickers that you will need to include on your car in the prescribed locations.  Other than those you are welcome to theme your car and proudly display the stickers of your own supporting donors or sponsors.

Prizes will be awarded for fundraising, teamwork and participation amoungst others… We have an awards function following the Derby.

Our Dunga entrants experience good natured rivalry and camaraderie and are treated to the finest old fashioned country hospitality.  The Dunga Derby is not a race or a timed event - it's about raising funds to support the Fraser Coast and communities we visit along the way.
